first meeting

I said I would use this to discuss what transpires at meetings, so...
the first meeting went fairly well, i thought.. I kinda rambled like I normally do...
I showed videos and photos, and started thinking engineering, talked about competition(s) and commitment requirements. I gave out a handout - please bring it back with your name and grade and email address on it so I know who you are.
Good to see several new members. I counted six or seven. It makes me hopeful for the continuation of the club after I graduate.
Hopefully Dr. Skipper's projector will let everyone see things a little better next week. I know Kyle won't be present, but I expect everyone else to be there. Cole said he had a physical, so he missed the first meeting, but he told me he would be there for the second.
I AM BRINGING COPPERHEAD next week. Be prepared. I will be talking about components and how things work, so prepare yourselves for a lot of information you will need to learn. Don't freak out if you don't get it at first, because it will be constantly discussed, but do make an effort to learn and memorize some of the things I talk about.

PLEASE leave me comments and tell me what you thought of the first meeting... so I can see if there's anything I should try to improve for next week. Having the bot physically there should help, but I know I can always improve my meetings...

and I'll be on time next week. :P

The first meeting seemed to go fairly well. I think that when you brought up some of the technical things like the strength's of metals and UHMW polyethelyne, the new people seemed to have no idea what you were talking about. We're probably going to have to hand out info sheets that can give everybody a general idea of how stuff works. Or we could go to wikipedia and read through that stuff during a meeting. Maybe you could bring in some samples of various metals for people to beat up on and get a feel for the tolerances and properties of different materials. Just for fun, see if you can find the video clip of us pulling somebody standing on a piece of UHMD polyethelyne.

Something that we should do is see if we can get administration or whoever manages the school website to add a link under the 'student life' tab that links to this blog.

awesome! that's a really good reassuring sign that things are back in business. I was getting worried for a while. I am bringing copperhead (in pieces) in to school tuesday, and Eddie is actually coming in! so tuesday should be a good meeting.
