Hi Jeff,
There will be a competition in Miami at the Dade County youth Fair in March for 15 pound robots as well as task oriented robots. The dates are: Task oriented March 28th, 15 pound March 29th.
The information will be coming out of the Bots IQ site hopefully today - we were promised by the IT people that the site would be up today after 3.
Keep in touch and hopefully we can see you in Miami in March.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Nola
P.S. If you have more questions just let me know :-)
This is incredibly AWESOME news! It means that we can compete inexpensively IN FLORIDA, so Dr. Skipper can go. This is wonderful. We can still compete at other competitions around the country, but we would have to limit the number of students attending.
Remember, everyone needs to get into groups and design a bot. There is no meeting next week, but the week after that we will meet. If you do not have a design for a 12, 15, or 30 lb bot at the meeting in two weeks, YOU WILL NOT BUILD A BOT. We need to get started here, and I don't think you will get as much out of this club if I just design four bots and assign teams to build them. It doesn't work like that.
RobotMarketplace has everything you will need. If you have any questions about how to do something or how something works, ask me. I will help you. I will go over your designs and make sure you don't fail. If you are worried about building the bot - DON'T. I want our TEAM to succeed, not just MY bots, so everyone's designs will get the same scrutinizing optimization.
I called RobotMarketplace, and the purchase order I made last week should be sent out tomorrow. This will let us finish EVERYTHING except the wheels on Copperhead.

Nice! Now we actually have a place where we know we can compete.
I think we should have most of the team compete at this one, and a few key members go to the other(s). I DO want to bring CH3 to California for real battlebots to compete and get televised. Someone needs to have a lot of practice driving so that they are totally comfortable with it.
I don't think I want to drive it..
Yeah I should maybe try out CH3 and see if I can drive it or not.
I'll try too I play lots of video games so I should be pretty decent at it
Haha looks like I need to break out the PS2 and get used to analog sticks again. I should also note that I am also pretty good at using a regular joystick as I used to play Star Wars: Episode I Racer with a Microsoft Sidewinder and I pwned at that game :)
